Hope you are well my brothers and sisters. It’s May! Let us get back to it, shall we? If you remember, we’re reflecting on Luke 24’s account after the resurrection.
if you haven’t already read it, you should start with Pt 1 of this blog, here
Now, St. Ephraim the Syrian said
To what is the benefit of this reading for us? A very considerable one, if we understand it rightly.
Jesus appeared. They saw him with their eyes and did not recognize him. The Master was walking with them along the way, and he himself was the Way. But they weren‘t yet walking along the way. “I AM THE WAY”
He found, you see, that they had wandered off the way. After all, when he had been with them before the passion, he had foretold everything: that he was going to suffer, to die and to rise again on the third day. He had foretold it all, but his death had erased it from their memories. They were so shattered when they saw him hanging on the tree that they forgot about his teaching. They did not expect him to rise, nor did they hold on to what he had promised.

We see how quickly death ruins our memory. Christ died, and they couldn’t remember him just a few days later. Similarly, sin can put me into a pit of guilt where I cannot see light. But after meeting Him, I want to return to Him. I will go back to Jerusalem, fearless, even if its in the dark of night. The disciples did just that.
Walking with God is a beautiful thing. Enoch, in Genesis 5, walked with God and did not die. Or, like St John describes it, “In Him was life…”
The law of truth was in his mouth,
And injustice was not found on his lips.
He walked with Me in peace and equity,
And turned many away from iniquity.
Malachi 2:6 NKJV
Malachi describes a special protection to those who walk with God. That is whats available to you and I, walking in peace.
This peace is mentioned in the chapter later. Remember when they made it back to Jerusalem? Imagine their excitement to get to the disciples and tell them how Jesus walked with them for miles!
And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread. Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.”
Jesus grants peace. That is one of His characteristics, and part of the fruit of the Spirit.
The world lacks this big time my friends, especially right now with the COVID 19, breaking down every bit of peace that was left.
Let us say with St. Paul (from Colossians) the 1thing that is needed for us to learn this week.
If then you were raised with Christ,
seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
If then you were raised with Christ
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
If then you were raised with Christ
For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
If then you were raised with Christ
Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
If then you were raised with Christ
Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.
If then you were raised with Christ
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering;
If then you were raised with Christ
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
There needs to be a complete change in my viewpoint.
If I choose to be in Him, live a life of repentance, baptized with Him, transfigured with Him, die with Him,rise with Him.
Are you with me? Better yet, are you with Him?
If then you were raised with Christ
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men (‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬ NKJV)
“Yesterday I was crucified with Him; today I am glorified with Him;
yesterday I died with Him; today I am quickened with Him;
yesterday I was buried with Him; today I rise with Him.
But let us offer to Him Who suffered and rose again for us— you will think perhaps that I am going to say gold, or silver, or woven work or transparent and costly stones, the mere passing material of earth, that
remains here below, and is for the most part always possessed by bad men, slaves of the world and of the Prince of the world.
Let us offer ourselves, the possession most precious to God, and most fitting; let us give back to the Image what is made after the Image. Let us recognize our Dignity; let us honor our Archetype; let us know the power of the Mystery, and for what Christ died.”
St. Gregory the Theologian – Homily on Pascha
You are precious to Him.
May we give Him our life, that #1thingisneeded.
Be well.
