I started this post last in 2016 and got back to it this week. Hope it brings you some peace, sensing His presence in your day.

Dear brother and sister, how was your day today? Multiple choice: good? very good? or, excellent? Dad asked my sister and I this question every day after school on our car ride home.

Every. Single. Day. I hated answering. I would rather say “fine”, or moan and grunt about his questioning. My busy adolescent mind had more important things to answer to. Priorities.

Whats worse – was when I would answer “good”. Because then, I would need to explain the rating. “Why wasn’t it excellent?”, he’d say with a smile. I didn’t want to reflect about my day, Dad – it wasn’t what the other kids did.

Ugh. It still irks me. It was a daily fight.  But, he had a point. Why settle for less than excellent? And notice how he gave no negative options? NEVER a negative day. Even on your worst day, things were still ‘good’. My brothers and sisters – this is a big deal.

Many of us are stuck in cycles of depression. Our thoughts and anxieties are so overwhelming that we cannot break free from them. They start small, maybe like ‘I’m not good enough”, or “I’m not pretty enough” – but these cycles grow tremendously large in no-time.

“…And God saw that it was good.” (‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

So – next question…how is your week?! Have you had time to reflect? We are not giving our introspection our time and focus. What if your week was ‘terrible’? My question is – could it have been worse? I assure you, yes. I can also promise you that our Creator is aware of your every need, your every stress, your every ounce of self-doubt.

My dad always kept this in our mind. I do believe it was purposeful – to keep positivity in our daily reflections. He taught us to dwell on positives, even if it is easier to point out negatives. For example – have you ever talked to a girl about another girl’s wedding dress? Try it. There are maybe 2 compliments, then 410710325 issues with it. That’s how I view the world.

What if you don’t have a father? Or, if you have a father and there is brokenness in that relationship? If you never knew him, or if you see him every day. If you love him, or if he’s never given you a reason to love. You and I share something in common – a heavenly, all-loving Father. He never wants us to have a negative day.

“For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12:50‬ ‭NKJV‬)

We are family – because we do His will. Are you living for that will? or another?

On Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came to dwell in us. This same Spirit was breathed into Adam at the creation. His return to our hearts started the Church – and we are filled by Him in the sacraments. We celebrate this daily in the 3rd hour – commemorating and reliving what took place with the disciples in the upper room.

O Lord who sent down Your Holy Spirit upon Your holy disciples and Your honored apostles in the third hour, do not take Him away from us, O Good One, but we ask You to renew Him within us, O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, the Word; a steadfast and life giving spirit, a spirit of prophecy and chastity, a spirit of holiness, justice and authority…

We should be steadfast. This means I am firm, unwavering, and loyal to my Lord. When this is established, my trust in Him will grow. I will see that He would not plan a bad day for me. Be mindful, that this does NOT mean tough days won’t come, but this is sin’s influence on the world. Death. Pain. Illness. Failure. Abuse. Depression. ALL will happen. But – the Lord has bigger plans for you and I.

Good, very good, or excellent?

I will tell you that life in the grasp of the Holy Trinity is nothing short of excellent, every day. May we all experience the excellence of our God.

Be well. #1thingisneeded.
